CIC Designation

KAIA manages the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation program in Kansas. Established in 1969, the program has been the insurance industry's premiere source for practical, real-world education. Approved for state continuing education credit across the country, the five CIC institutes include:
  • Personal Lines
  • Commercial Casualty
  • Commercial Property
  • Life & Health
  • Agency Management

Program Eligibility

To attend CIC institutes and be eligible to obtain the CIC designation, an individual must:
  • Be a licensed agent, broker, adjuster, or solicitor; or
  • Have at least two years of full-time experience in insurance or as a risk management practitioner; or
  • Have served as a full-time insurance faculty member at an accredited college or university.

Requirements to Earn CIC Designation

Pass all five of the examinations. Any institute may be repeated after a failed examination, however, all five CIC exams must be passed within five years of completion of the first CIC exam (or) four CIC exams must be passed in addition to any one of the five CRM exams within five years of completion of the first CIC or CRM exam.

The entire series of CIC examinations must be successfully completed within five calendar years after passing the first examination.

Retainment of CIC Designation

To retain CIC designation, agents must attend at least one of the following each year:
  • Any one of the five CIC institutes
  • James K. Ruble Seminar
  • Dynamics of Selling program
  • Dynamics of Sales Management program
  • Certified Risk Manager course
