Is Auto Insurance Enough?

Here's What Else Your Customers Need When They're on the Road

Most motorists assume if they have “full coverage” on their vehicle, they’re fully covered.

That’s not always the case.

An RLI Excess Uninsured Motorist/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM) endorsement ensures coverage for your customers in the event they are injured in an accident caused by the owner or operator of an uninsured or underinsured vehicle.

According to the Insurance Research Council (IRC), roughly one in eight drivers is uninsured or underinsured. If your customers are injured in an accident with an uninsured or underinsured motorist and exceed the limits of their auto policy coverage, the fallout could be devastating.

Take this real-life scenario. An insured was driving a vehicle when it was rear-ended at high speed by an intoxicated driver who was uninsured. The insured was airlifted to the hospital and sustained spinal injuries and other complications.

Because the insured had an RLI Personal Umbrella Policy that included coverage for Excess UM/UIM with a policy limit of $1,000,000, the insured was paid the full $1,000,000 for an accident that was not his fault.

Educate your customers on the importance of an RLI Excess UM/UIM Endorsement on their Personal Umbrella Policy. They might not even be aware that their current auto insurance policy may not cover this kind of scenario and others. We encourage you to share this video that explains RLI’s UM/UIM coverage in more detail. Let your customers know you’re looking out for them when they’re on the road.
