YAK Receives 2024 Outstanding Workforce Development Award

During the Big ‘I’ Fall Leadership Conference, the Big 'I' National Young Agents Committee has awarded the Young Agents of Kansas (YAK) the prestigious 2024 Outstanding Workforce Development Award in recognition of their exemplary efforts to engage and inspire the next generation of insurance professionals.

Under the leadership of Chair Bryce Burdiek of SBS Insurance Agency, YAK has made significant strides in promoting workforce development within the insurance industry. From career fairs to educational programs, YAK members have actively reached out to students across Kansas, demonstrating the diverse career opportunities available in the insurance field.

A recent career fair provided an opportunity to speak to over 300 high school juniors about the wide range of careers available in the insurance industry. Other outreach efforts included educating high school sophomores on the basics of auto, home, and life insurance, covering topics such as liability, deductibles, and how driving records impact premiums. Additionally, a career event introduced over 650 students to the various roles within an insurance agency and the education paths required for those positions.

YAK also produced "Junior Reporter" videos to raise awareness about the organization and the insurance industry. In partnership with Kansas University, they participated in a networking mixer to build relationships with future industry professionals. Further development efforts included co-hosting the 2023 Fall Conference with KAIA, which featured sessions focused on sales and leadership growth.
