KAIA Young Agents Help Raise Funds for ALS

The Young Agents of Kansas need your help to #FlexOnALS and support Kansas Native, Scott Smith, with his battle against this cruel disease.

Topeka, Kan. – The Kansas Association of Insurance Agents (KAIA) Young Agents Committee has decided this year’s community service fundraiser will support a Kansas native, Scott smith, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2020.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, or ALS, is a neurodegenerative disease that directly affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. It impacts thousands of people each year, people like Scott Smith and his family.

Smith’s diagnosis, which came in the same year that his wife was expecting their second child, rendered him unable to walk or talk. His journey has been heartbreaking for those around him. After meeting Scott and his family, YAK Chair, Zach Renn, knew that the committee needed to help.

Searching for a way to contribute to the fight against ALS and Scott, Zach chose the #FlexOnALS Challenge as the 2022 YAK Community Service Project to help bring awareness to ALS and Scott's story. For the month on November, YAK will be collecting donations to aid Scott in his fight against ALS and for every dollar donated, YAK will match up to $3,000!
