2026 Annual Convention Recap

The 2026 KAIA Annual Convention took place February 2–4 in Wichita, KS, bringing together 642 insurance professionals from across the state for three days of education, advocacy, networking, and celebration. With 19 educational sessions and a trade show featuring 82 booths, this year’s event once again demonstrated the strength and momentum of the Kansas insurance community.

This year’s theme, “Charging Into the Future: Technology, Tenacity, Transformation,” set the tone for a forward-focused and celebratory convention. Attendees explored emerging technologies, navigated evolving market challenges, and embraced strategies designed to help agencies adapt and thrive in a rapidly changing industry landscape. The theme was woven throughout the educational sessions and events, reinforcing the resilience and innovation that define independent agents in Kansas.

Networking & Special Events

The convention offered numerous opportunities for meaningful connection and memorable moments:

  • Welcome Reception & Trade Show – A vibrant kickoff event where attendees connected with industry partners and explored innovative solutions across 82 exhibitor booths.
  • Outing at Chicken N Pickle – Sponsored by the Young Agents of Kansas (YAK), this lively evening blended fun and networking in a relaxed setting.
  • Networking Receptions – Targeted receptions created space for deeper connections, including:
    • KAIA Leadership & New Member Reception
    • Women in Insurance Reception
  • Closing Night Party – A high-energy celebration featuring dueling pianos and a few unforgettable surprises.

One of the most talked-about moments of the convention came during the Closing Night Party. Immediate Past President Bryan Schmitz and newly installed President David Vogel fulfilled their hair-dying challenge after YAK surpassed its fundraising goal for Grace’s Guardians. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, more than $6,000 was raised to provide 10 care packages for families with children battling cancer.

Raising the stakes even higher, Bryan sportingly auctioned off the opportunity to shave his hair into a mohawk. Combined Agents of America secured the winning bid of $1,500, with proceeds benefiting YAK’s 2026 Community Service Project, My Heart Check.

In addition, KAIA raised $7,500 for InsurPac by raffling off a Henry Golden Boy H004 .22 Caliber Rifle with customized engraving. Congratulations to raffle winner Lyle Davidson.

Keynote Speaker: Marques Ogden

Marques Ogden delivered a powerful and motivational keynote, “Thriving Through The Eye of the Storm: How to Charge Forward Like a Bison.” Drawing from his personal journey of adversity and resilience, Ogden inspired attendees to confront challenges head-on rather than avoid them.

Through authentic storytelling and actionable takeaways, he encouraged agents to adopt a “bison mentality” — charging directly into storms instead of running from them — so they can emerge stronger, more successful, and more fulfilled both personally and professionally. His message perfectly aligned with the convention theme and left attendees energized to embrace the future with confidence.
